Confused with EasyJet baggage charges

Hi moneysavers,

I'm a bit puzzled on this... I'm planning a trip with easyjet and on the way back to UK, i will have quite a lot of stuff to carry. Therefore i'm trying to learn the maximum limit i can bring back in baggage.

On the website, the maximum is stated as 50kg/person.

It also says that each person is limited with one hold baggage up to 20kg...

However, when purchasing tickets, you can purchase extra hold bag allowances for £5/each.

I called up customer service to ask how this reflects to the total, but the guy on the phone was more puzzled than me.

First he said my maximum was 20 kg, and purchasing additional hold bag allowance wouldn't change that.

Then he said it was increased to 32kg/person...

After further talk, he put me on hold and when he came back he told me it's actually 50kg in total.

So i asked him:

"if i had 2 baggages of 25kg each, and purchased one extra baggage allowance from the website when buying the ticket, would it mean i can carry 50kgs in two baggages by just paying £5?"

and he said yes...

But i'm still not sure that he was sure on that. So i was wondering if any of you had a similar experience and would like to enlighten me...

Thanks
Been there... done that...

    Hi,

I have not checked but from memory

    20kg personal hold allowance

    32kg maximum item weight

    50kg max total per person

between 20kg and 50kg chargeble at £5 per kilo prebooked, £10 if paid at the airport

so if you carry 50 kilo you pay £150 surcharge prebooked , £300 at the Airport

    shammy,

Update, Website confims these prices !

to think of the times when what they claim to be a 'cheap flight' have amounted to with extra costs they have charged and the level of service... i might as well fly upper class in virgin...

ok so that's a bit of an exagerration but it's clear that they are to make money by targetting a population where people want to travel cheap and easy. and the customer service leaves little to be desired.

i would never fly easyjet again.

I guess what's confusing me is the selection box on their web page when booking for a flight. You can choose add up to 8 additional hold bags for £5 each... But it also says the maximum total is 20kg... Even if you were to pay for up to 50kg, how are you supposed to have 8+1(free) baggage pieces totalling 50kg? Seems like it's an erroneous option on the page.

Apart from easyjet, do you know any other economical way of carrying high volume luggage on flights? Cargo companies maybe? I'm talking about up to 100kg goods (curtains, small items for home like bed linen, etc.)

That seems to be a bit steep - that's way more expensive than RyanAir.

However, it seems that it costs £15 to check in a golf club, bike, ski or gun - however, if you do this, then your "free" baggage allowance is bumped up to 32kg. If I've interpreted this correctly, this means that once you're over your 20kg limit, it's cheaper to go with a single special item of sporting equipment weighing less than 9kg than it is to go without it.

    No they are not.

If people took the trouble to read the T&C`s,(which they tick a box to say they agree to) then how can they be rip-off?

You read the T&C`s,so you know what`s what,so how are they rip-off.
You`ve just blo0dy well agreed to them.
You CANNOT book a flight without agreeing to the T&C`s.

Maybe we should have a thread about people talking a load of tripe about Easyjet & Ryanair, because they have failed to read the T&C`s.

    READ THE T&`C`s,READ THE T&C`s,READ THE T&C`s.

RTFT&C is more likely :) Anyway, joking aside i've now booked from luton to istanbul-turkey between 16-30 june for £229 for two people. In my book it's a bloody bargain when normal tickets are around that price per person for the season...

I'll probably sort out a cargo company or smth to send back the goods instead of carrying them with me. It's a hassle anyway to carry all that stuff. I've already saved at least £200 from the ticket by going EasyJet so i can afford cargo prices (hopefully)
