Best month to put a house on the market?

Which is the best month to put a house on the market?
Obviously I'm not looking for 5 years ago as the answer.
But as prices tend to fluctuate throughout the year, which is the best month to put your house on the market? Slightly different question from which is the best month to sell your house - as all the graphs I've come accross seem to talk about the prices that house are selling at not when they were put on the market?
Obviously most people have other constraints but just wondering when is a good time to put a rented property on the market.

Typically the best periods for the housing market are spring and autumn. For some reason that's when people seem to look to move home. You could argue that as demand increases more people put their homes on the market to meet the supply, so in price terms theoretically it should be neutral.
August is a very quiet month, the number of properties appearing on the property portals dries up and property supplements in newspapers become wafer thin.
If you really want to sell your home September is a good time to start the process.
However you should do your research and establish what your home is worth via sold prices on property sites like rightmove etc. The estate agents who will fight for your business will give you higher figures to try to encourage you to use them.0 -
I agree September is a good time!
We put ours on the market in September (7 years ago now, so know things have changed) and we sold within the first week!
A friend put her's on the market last Friday, had 14 viewers saturday, full asking price offer Monday morning! So think she would agree September is a good time too0 -
Very useful info, I doubt I'll be able to get it on the market that quick, but very useful info all the same. There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0
