ESA appeal - when do I get money again?

I was denied ESA on 13th August.
I appealed against the decision on 29th August.

How long after sending in the appeal form do you get money again?
I obviously have had no money, and I'm really desperate!

Do you need to send medical notes while it's in appeal?
CAB didn't tell me this, will this hold up my benefits re-starting?
Does anyone know where I send my medical notes?

How long does appeal take?
I've got to leave the country for two weeks at the end of October so I'm worried this will interfere with the appeal. As I can't sort-out Fuel Direct or housing and tax benefits until ESA is reinstated, or I'm forced back onto JSA, I'm really worried it's not going to be sorted in time.

You can sort LHA and CTB whilst the ESA appeal is ongoing. Get down the council offices ASAP with passport, DL and bank statements for ALL accounts for the last 2 months.

There is no set timeframe that it will be sorted, depending on how far you have to push it. You could be looking weeks, maybe months.

  • You need to send sick note's in until the outcome of your appeal is known to get the assessment rate.Appeal could be anything from 4 month to 12 month to take place.

  • As above you'll need sicknotes covering you to get assessment rate while appealing. The address should be the one at top of DWP ESA letters.. probably a Benefits Delivery Centre (BDC) address. The DWP wil lreconsider the decision to see if they can change it... could take up to 2 or 3 months... after that expect several months wait for tribunal to be arranged.

I have now been waiting almost 5 months for my recon, so some areas are clearly taking much longer than others.
  • I sent in my appeal at the beginning of the week, today I checked my bank and they'd put in some money, so I think they've reinstated my assessment rate already. Hope that helps you? I'd check your bank and see if they've done same for you!
