Why would the seller want to cancel the transaction in this case?

I purchased some money off vouchers last month from an eBay seller. He had a lot of lots for these vouchers. The transaction went smoothly, the vouchers arrived quickly and I used them a few days later with no problems.

Now, around 4 weeks later, I've received a message saying that the seller wants to cancel the transaction because "the buyer changed their mind".

I've messaged the seller to ask why he wants to cancel the transaction. The seller says it's just because of eBay's fees.

I feel uneasy about this.

Any advice?

I would not collude with a cheating seller, just ignore him.

So you've bought and used the vouchers already?

If you've spent them, you can't cancel, can you?
Maybe he's getting you mixed up with someone else.

Maybe someone will correct me if im wrong, but if the buyer ignores the request doesnt it time out in favour of the seller?
So maybe just decline the cancellation.

Just what I was going to say.

I don't agree with him cancelling, so I'm going to decline it,

    Thanks for your help.

I assume that he offered to send you half the fees? ;)

Seriously, I would decline this request - just makes eBay more expensive for the rest of us!

  • I have noticed more and more people doing this- its happened to me twice in recent months, on each occasion there was a sob story - seller said they selling up mums things as she is going into a home, collected the items, no problem, when I arrived home there was a request to cancel the transaction. I was very uncomfortable about it and sent a message back sating they must have confused me with someone else as I had already collected, remember?

Then bought something else and collected and the huy told me this sob story about wanting to buy a new wheelchair for his daughter - she was genuinely wheelchair bound, I did see her- then the same thing, message demanding cancellation. Again I messaged and said you must be confused, I have collected already so cannot cancel. For each of them I declined to cancel.

Sign of the times I think, plus people wising up to getting out of ebay fees. Even though both cases were genuine I just felt too uncomfortable about colluding with a lie, even if it was intended for a good cause, I don't want to be a modern Robin Hood!!,

I declined the request last night and sent a message telling the seller that as we both benefited from the service eBay provided I didn't think it right to avoid the fees in this way.

(I've now got a funny feeling that the vouchers were obtained in a less than honest fashion too. :()
