Really need help with Bank Charges

Hi, Im really sorry but this is quite long, but wanted to give as much info as possible.

in oct 2011 myself and hubby split up. we have a joint bank account with halifax and it had an overdraft of £2000

when we split we agreed we would pay it back equally. I called the bank and explained the full situation. They refused to freeze the account and we eventually came to a decision that, i would pay £50 per month and ex would pay £50 a month into the account. each time we paid in, the overdraft would reduce by the same amount.

However.........each month i am getting charges of £30 due to having a planned overdraft
that then takes me over the overdraft.......and yep, im getting un-planned overdraft charges of between £35 - £45 per month..

so each month we pay £100 we are being charged £65 - £75 :((

I am at my wits end now and i just want this joint debt gone with my ex, so i am no longer financially associated to him.

can anyone help me? where do i stand? they wont freeze the account or stop the charges and i am never going to be able to get this debt paid off. Its making me ill thinking about it all the time.
is there anything i can do??

Thank you in advance :)

The first thing I suggest you do is open an account in your name only.
Use that, keeping it in credit, and you shouldn't get hit with so many charges.

If your estranged husband won't do likewise and keeps wanting to use the joint account, discuss the situation with the bank.

If they can't help, seek independent legal advise. :)
