The guy across the road had a Yugo years ago.

I loved my Talbot Samba as a boy.

When on holiday this year down south there were mk1 and mk2 fiestas running around.

Or a Nova? Sure they done a 950cc, was an A reg.

There a Samba cabriolet on ebay at the moment. less than £1000. I'm tempted, but the insurance is a bit too pricey.
    Mk1 Fiesta is good.

    Polo! :)

Depending on what you do for a living, you might find it cheaper to insure a mall van than a car. My little corsavan takes a bit of beating for an economobile.

    Mk1 and 2 Polo aren't bad.

Suzuki Alto/swift (old models). Most likely to have been bought new as a pensioner, engine barely run in. May need a clutch. Rust shouldn't be an issue.

    Also hyundai atoz/amica...

You'd probably get a more modern one compared to some rusty Fiat, with exciting features like a steering wheel, see through windscreen and some seats.

There's a 1999 alto on ebay for £295, and it's certainly ugly enough. But nearly uninsurable.

Ok... don't laugh. And in my defence, I've had a beer or two.

    Aixam 500.

Insurance should be a doddle as it aint a car. And I doubt it goes quick enough to kill anyone.

Just done a quote, and it's up at the top of the prices. It must be because it's not a mainstream car.

One assumes that safety isn't a parameter in this choice?

It'll fit in well with the rest of the vehicles.

2CV but you won't get a nice one for that money. :( I found the same thing with an Aixam when I was looking for my first car.

There's a couple on ebay worth a go, insurance is cheap enough as you say. I may keep my eye on them.
  • I would plug the Mark 2 Nissan Micra. Amazingly reliable, not too cramped and very cheap to run and insure.

And another, Micra all the way...
