Has the Civil Service Recruitment Freeze Been Eased?

Has the Civil Service recruitment freeze been lifted slightly? I ask this because I noticed, from the Civil Service website, that a couple of departments (e.g. DWP, HMRC) are taking on quite a few staff.

Don't know about that, but have just been sent a job alert for a post in "training and education" that involves road side checks of tacographs and tax / insurance etc. Tentative connection in education of drivers about the use of their tacographs?0

I know recently the Home Office were recruiting 50 graduates and lots of school leavers. I applied but didn't get it0

I have been on their site for job alerts for 9 mths and there are jobs every days I get sent so I guess not unless these are all people who are leaving that need to be replaced.0

The ONS have been recruiting quite fervently recently for their Newport and Titchfield sites, and have been long-term advertising with a closing date of 31st December. I think there's been a combination of more retirement, and the compounded effects of the recruitment freeze. The recruitment freeze must have been lifted, as previously they were only allowed to recruit via the Fast Stream scheme, which has always been protected from any recruitment freezes.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

If the recruitment freeze really has been lifted, then that is certainly good news! As a former Civil Servant, I have been trying so hard to get back in again. The ONS have been recruiting quite fervently recently for their Newport and Titchfield sites, and have been long-term advertising with a closing date of 31st December. The recruitment freeze was never a total ban. Any vacancies had to be approved by people at/near the top rather than line managers automatically recruiting to replace leavers under their own authority.
Theres a big puch by government to cut down on tax & benefit fraud, that means more staff in DWP & HMRC0 -
Oh right, I didn't know that. I was under the misconception that it was a total ban, right across the board. It certainly seemed that way, given the fact that over the past two years or so, there haven't seemed to be quite as many AA or AO posts advertised as they used to be. One time, I would occasionally be notified by the jobcentre about casual AA/AO vacancies in, for instance, the DWP.The recruitment freeze was never a total ban. Any vacancies had to be approved by people at/near the top rather than line managers automatically recruiting to replace leavers under their own authority.

Has anyone on here applied for the hmrc vacancies?0

Yes, me. I had an interview with HMRC, Bootle, a few weeks ago . . .and finally got the soul-destroying rejection email this morning.
Checked what feedback they gave me on the Civil Service website and discovered that I scored 12 (the last question got me only 2 marks, the rest were 4, 3 and 3). Don't know if they have a standard pass mark for this department, but as I say, I am feeling extremely depressed today after that rejection.Has anyone on here applied for the hmrc vacancies?0
