If all else fails, try BSM - they have such a large network, and advertise that they do automatics, they should be able to help.

    They are not cheap though.

Undoubtedly, learning to drive is much easier in an automatic. That being said,I am not sure that it would be in your best long term interest to take your test in one.THere are more manuals on the road, and there may well be occasions when you might need to drive one and will not be able to.Far better to bite the bullet now, than have to take another test when you are older.

After all, once you have passed in a manual, you are free to drive an automatic from then on.Bear in mind too that automatics are more expensive to run[2 or 3 mpg more than a manual],their gearboxes are more expensive to replace and new automatics cost more than a manual, and depreciate faster than manuals.

You would also benefit from already having a lady instructor for a manual?

That's what happens to ladies who drive automatics in Bury, I think it's got something to do with having the hand and foot next to your passenger free.

    :p
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

Why does it have to be a Man. My first instructor was female and she was always checking herself in the mirror and yawning. On the day of my test she slept late and picked me up 5 mins before my test was to start. Needless to say I failed as I was late and didn't have sufficent time. She had the cheek to charge me for an hour use of the car! Next instructor was a man. He was brill - told me I didn't need lessons and I should have passed my test. Helped me get a cancellation so I didn't need to waste money on lessons. He always turned up on time and before taking me out for the first lesson came into meet my parents as I was only 17 and he would like to know who his daughter was with. Showed his car registration, insurance details, home address everything to my father. 3 weeks later passed my test:)

  • If you can stick with trying to drive a manual then I would. I have a problem with my knee which means that I can only drive automatic and get very frustrated as it casues me problems such as:

    1) I have been rejected for jobs beacuse of not having a manual license

    2) I have had difficulty finding an Auto Car to suite my budget.

    3) Getting a hire car is difficult and a courtusey car from a garage I have never had as they simply do not have any Auto's.

    etc......

However if you need to drive an Auto then I would recoomend BSM, my instructour was Male and was Brillant!, he was very patient. Definetly recommended, Good Luck!!
