HOW DOES THE NEXT BID INCREASE BY £49.01 WHEN AN ITEM STARTED FOR 99p?
CLISIM
I am perplexed. I bid on an electrical item which had a unknown Reserve on it. The item listing price was 99p so I bid 99p.
This morning I have a little look-see at my Bids and see that I have been outbid and that even though there are only 2 bids (my original 99p and the one outbidding me), the current winning bid is £50 and the Reserve has been met.
I admit to not being the sharpest knife in the box but I thought that the next bid would be £1.04 not straight to £50.
I would like to say that the item is worth the money but can someone please be gentle with me and explain the large bid jump from 99p straight to £50.
Lots of love Mrs Clisim xxx

The reserve was £50 and the second biider bid £50 or more so automatically shows as being capable of winning the auction.
If 2nd bidder had bid less than the reserve th ebidding pattern would look normal as neither of you would be capable of winning the item.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Spot on, the easiest/best way of explaining proxy bidding I've ever seen! Its quite complex in the way it works, but this is a great way to understand it.0 -
I had a similar puzzle recently.
I sold an item with a £199 reserve set, with a £0.99 start.
I had a few bids, £0.99, £1.19, £1.39 if I remember correctly, then all of a sudden a bid of £100 was showing. I didn't know how this had been done ... I had imagined the bids would have gone up in 20p jumps.0 -
Your bidder at £1.39 put a maximum bid of £99, then the next bidder rplaced a £100+ bid, therefore the big jump0
