Spent money on my debit card and not been debited from my bank account

Hello,
So , Last week we went away on holiday. 20 days ago I went into London and used my debit card to get the best rate on Euro's from a foriegn exchange company.
I used my debit card (Chip and Pin) to pay for the currency (Around £1500). When I got back home I checked online with my bank and the amount showed up as not being availble as credit in my account but did not show up as a debit on the statement. I thought this was normal as I know sometimes it takes a few days to process.
I return from our break today and checked my account online and the amout has not been debited from my account still but now the full amount of of my balance shows as avaialable unlike before.
MY question is how long after the transaction has taken place can the retailer or card company claim the money from my account?
Could I get away with this one?:T
Many Thanks
Chris

This happened a lot when I paid for driving lessons with BSM. They will take the money, as above they have 6 years to claim it. Although they can take it without warning for up to less than that. Not sure how long, maybe a year?

I once donated money to Children in Need, took them about 3 months for them to take the payment!

They can take it any time in the first 6 months after the transaction. After that they have to request it, but its still a legal requirement to pay it for 6 years after the original transaction date.
