I'm probably the only bride to be that doesnt wear makeup and wont let anyone near my hair! lots of savings as I dont wear makeup and I'll do my hair myself, with maybe a little bit of help from my mum to get my tiara just right!
My main saving tip- EBAY IS WONDERFUL!!!!
Found practically everything we want and for dirt cheap so all the reception extras and decorations will cost a grand total of £38.98!!!

Hi all (this is my 1st post!!!!)

I'm getting married in July 2010 & love to get a great bargain.

I have a £6k budget so we have negootiated deals on what we have booked so far.
The Hotel wanted £750 corkage and stipulated they MUST provide arrival drinks (obviously at additional cost!) & we managed to reduce it to £500 to cover everything & we can buy our own booze for arrival drinks now.

We are using our Tesco clubcard vouchers to buy the wine/fizz for the reception & waiting to get offers via the wine club on the wine we like (usually get it about half price so double up on quantity!)

I have had a look in St Gemma Hospice wedding boutique (would you believe it!) for accessories & they also have dresses for all tastes (either some ex-wedding shop dresses/samples which are new & with price tags still on!).
Also, have a look at Oxfam online (they do bridal!)

Preloved & free ad's have some great bargain accessories (I got my shoes that are currently £35 in Next for £5 from Free ad's & once wiped over they look as good as new & who is gonna see them anyway!)

I am so excited at finding bargains I hope these tips help. I will post more when I can.

Would also like to hear from like minded Bride's (or Groom's) to be!

I don't wear make-up either & am quite stubborn about my hair too!!!
I have a Maid of Honour who wants to railroad me into looking like some Jordan-esque made up tart for my big day, what a shock she'll have!
    Stick to your guns.

    I also love ebay!:rotfl:

    Hi everyone

Me and OH are looking to get married in the next 2 years and are starting to think about booking things etc etc.
I am going to college in September to study NVQ Level 2 Professional Cookery and my idea is that with help from a few friends that can cook, we could make our own wedding food? Something a bit better than the ol' Peter Kay "vol-au-vants, chicken legs, cheesecake" kind of thing but something we can cook the day before and stick in a fridge (albeit pretty large fridge!) so do you think this is a good idea?
Any suggestions on things that would be good? I am thinking things like pasta salad, bread with different toppings to choose from, chicken legs (okay maybe it will be like Peter Kay!!) but lacking some inspiration at the moment.

Has anyone else done this? How much did they spend? Did they regret it?

    thanks
    xxx

I did the catering for my dad's wedding 4 years ago.
I borrowed a fiends mambership card from Makro & got some fantastic finger food there in big packs for lower than supermarket stuff (samosas, spring rolls, chicken goujons, mini pizzas) they also have fab catering size cakes & a bakery where you can get fresh pastries/bread at great prices.

Your local college may even do some pastries & possibly your wedding cake if you speak to them, I know my local college does & they only make you pay minimal cost for the ingredients!
If you have a freezer than get the Makro stuff when it's on offer & most of it is oven cook from frozen & will keep till the day after.Volu u vants do tend to be a bit soggy done & stored from the day before & just be careful with chicken on the bone!!

  • Hey Mrs.Thrift.. Im Mrs.Metallica (soon to be! lol)

so here's a few sites for rings ive found that would make a great alternative to the gold, silver and platnium rings we see today... https://www.steel-jewelry.com https://www.love2have.co.uk

Wedding dresses : look up barnardo's , they do a line of bridal wear that are up to 80% off, 2nd hand, brand new ect.. also support your local lil stores for they can ahve the best of sales aswell. my dress was £1225 and i got it for £299 bargin!

Flowers: goto asda or tesco and pick up a bunch of roses for a tenner and for the brides maid, use smaller flowers at the cost between £2 and £8, add a lil bit of fluffy fabric or lace around the stem to add a lil touch of eleangace and design.

Men: try hiring a kilt or ask your local kilt shop for when there sales day is, the day they get rid of all the old hire stock, you can save hundreds doing so and there just as good as new. suits you can buy cheaply at BHS,Tesco,ASDA and many other retailers cheaply. BHS normally have deals on where you can buy the suit and get the sock shoes and shirt free.

Make a wishing well instead of a gift list, get your guest to put some money in an envolope and have thewm right a lil wish on it for you or even a little note. this is more commonly practised in america and canada.. and is far better for your guests as they dont have to worry about buying something they cant afford. Also at the end of the day you can do with the money what you like!

Bridesmaid: take them round the local high street shops like New look and Bay and Topshop, you can pick up out fits that will match and they'll all feel comfortable in.. easy on them, easy on your pocket and most of all.. they can wear it again!!!

thats me for just now, i will be back later with more tips. :)

  • I am considering going to the Oxfam Bridal Shop in Bradford to see if I can find a dress which won't break the bank. I see no point in paying £1000s on a dress that's only going to be worn once. and if the perfect dress is secondhand so what?

Has anyone been there? What is it like? Is it worth going?

I am getting married in September. Going to start dress shopping in the next couple of weeks. Has anyone been to any shops in the West Yorkshire/Kirklees area which you can recommend or have good bargains?
