Payment of check out report at end of tenancy

My contract states that:the tenant will 'be responsible for payment of any charge relating to the Inventory check out at the end of the tenancy"

That sounds like items identified by the report, rather than the report itself. Or am i wrong?

After a long debate about a number of issues upon vacating the property, we were also only told that this charge would be made 2 1/2 months after the end of the tenancy.

Thanks G_M. Would you say there was any comeback if there had been no mention of this in the totals that the agent wanted to take out of the deposit in the 2 1/2 months of negotiation? Also we weren't given sight of it until new tenants moved in, despite having asked for it (about 2 weeks after the check out was done, and at a point where we would have not been able to do anything about it, i.e. talked to our cleaners and have then go back). Anything we can do?

The charge you refer to is nothing to do with any charges for damage/missing inventory items/rent arrears which you may or may not owe, and which may or may not be deducted fom your deposit (if one was paid).

Debts (ie for valid charges) can be persued for up to 7 years (I think - may be 5 but can't be bothered to check). So assuming the charge was in the contract you signed.......
