Refused HB 4 week run on.

Hi guys and Girls
I started my new job today
full time 36 hours per week.
Came off IS on Friday,
Yesterday I recieved a letter from my HB office saying I do not qualify for 4 week run on and my HB claim has been suspended
not good. job centre advised me I would qualify (I have been on IS for 5 odd years). Had to go up HB office yesterday with change of circumstances form and bank statements (CTC forms will follow when new award notice arrives) but however they cannot do anything until I have 2 wage slips (I will be paid monthly and it will be end of October until I can supply 2) They simply will not budge on the suspended claim.
Rung DWP back who cannot see why I failed to qualify, HB office said just do not pay the rent (not a good response)
Anything more I can do, its a huge worry (rent is £1200pcm private rented, wages will not even cover it)
I have sorted my ctc and wtc but once I have covered childcare, travel, bills and food it will not stretch to all of my rent (nowhere near). Have to wait for in work credit to be processed but understand they will also want wage slips.
Any idea's, not paying my rent until November is not an option cannot see LL will wait. Am now left with the worry of it all.

Contact your local MP - if you are sure that you are entitled to this and you risk homelessness because of a processing error or knowledge gap, your MP should be told and can put a rocket back up them.
The Shelter website has info on how to avoid and deal with rent arrears.
I don't know if it applies to suspended claims but for a new claim, a HB claimant can demand an interim HB payment if after 2 weeks of submitting all the correct info, their claim has not yet been processed by the council.0 -
Thank you x will try my luck with them again tomorrow as DWP when they rung me back said they would re submit the required info, I will find contact details for local MP. DWP have told me today I 100% qualify, just hard when they want 2 months of wage slips of someone who has just started working again.Debt free

Agree with BigAunty, it amazed me how my Son's MP sorted out an ESA Claim within days when I had been battling for months!!
Good Luck with your new job.0 -
Just wondering if the housing benefit run on has been applied to your I.S claim by I.S.
Ring up again and ask if the HBRO indicators have been applied, ask them to check the screen it should show as code 43.
This may not have been applied when your claim was closed.
Have you been paid the job grant....??
The LA usually check the I.S system and if the HBRO hasnt been applied dont pay the run on...
May not be but worth a shot.
if not then MP

Don't know if this helps but our local council will accept a letter from employers (must be on headed paper) which sets out the pay expected and dates it will be paid.
I've had to write these for some of our staff as they get paid monthly (with a month in hand).
I suppose all councils may differ - but maybe worth an ask?
Good luck getting sorted .x0 -
Hi, i was in a very similar situation 6 months ago. The council told me the exact same as you. I phoned back and spoke to someone else a more helpful person and i done as she advised which was that i had to write a letter stating when the job started, who it was with, hours worked and rate of pay and also that it was expected to last over 5 weeks. I was paid as normal with no break in the claim it went smoothly, then when you get your ctc award send that to them to see if your entitled to help with your rent. Hth.0

In my office, we realise that when people start a job, they don't have the wageslips to provide so I ask for a Contract of Employment which should set out the hours of work and gross salary. I would then use this and ask for payslips when received. We would then give the claimant an underpayment as Tax and NI would be payable.
However, the 4 week run on should be straightforward. If you can show that you have been in receipt of a qualifying benefit for 26 weeks or more, ended JSA to start a job and are employed for 16 hours or more, this is all we need. We do not have to have the Jobcentre's say on HBRO or not although the indicators are useful.
Normally, when you sign off these days, the JCP should go through a process called In and Out of Work. They should send the LA a form called an IWK4 electronically which confirms hours and sometimes salary.
I can only suggest that the LA either haven't had the IWK4 form yet, or that the JSA end reason is not ' started remuerative work',
I would ask again and if you get no where, ask to speak to a Team Leader (someone like me!) who can hopefully get it sorted for you.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
