I was looking at some old pics and it seems that some of the JPEGs have a problem! It comes up with the following error message: "Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video. The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted". Unfortunately the backups aren't working either. Are there any tools/software that anyone can recommend?!?

If you right click an image, click properties, is the size 0KB
Have you tried irfanview or similar, the add ons are useful

Thanks but.... just tried that program but no good. It says: "Can't read file header".
It asked me to activate the Unicode plugin (I had) but still didn't work.
The files are 1.2MB.0 -
Checking through this, so far the only one which worked is system restore

Someone had symantec anti virus which caused it, apparently
Someone used a recovery programme

Hmmm... tried a few different programs but to no avail sadly. Don't think System Restore would work cos the pics were copied onto this laptop (and the originals had seemingly corrupted).0

If they are still where you copied them from, have you got another PC to try them with
If system restore does not work, you can undo it
Someone said to click start then run, type sfc /scannow then click ok
Also click start then run, type chkdsk /r click ok, then type Y to confirm for next start, then restart the laptop, though it takes a while to run.
Both the above are with the spaces0 -
Sounds daft but please don't dismiss me as a nutter! if the files are .jpeg then try renaming them to .jpg (without the e) and vice-versa if they are already .jpg. Windows should automatically reconstruct the file headers.0

Have tried them on our original XP PC - don't open there either!0

@ T_T renaming them JPEG doesn't work either!0
