Working Tax Credits

I was just hoping someone could help me with something if possible. I've read the criteria online for qualifying for WTC, we (my husband and I) seem to meet the criteria, yet have never been awarded any in our tax credit claims (our child is now 2).

Is there any reason why this may be or could I be missing out? The award letters always show us as being awarded WTC but then this is deducted to make zero award. We receive CTC and CB. Is there an income threshold for WTC and is it lower than CTC?

Husband works full time hours and I work 14 hours a week.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the income deduction is applied to WTC first then CTC, so it's quite normal. But being eligible for WTC, even though you don't any, does get you a bit more CTC since the WTC uses up some of the income taper, so your CTC is reduced by less. If you see what I mean.

This is true however you have a child and so a child element within tax credits will raise this threshold. Have you checked your tax credit award letter thoroughly? Is everything accurate?

You can do your own tax credit check on the HMRC website... just search "tax credit calulator".

Hi, yes I've checked the award letters (this is the 2nd year we've claimed and it's always been the same).
