Cheapest place to buy / hire a chainsaw

As the title says,
I need a chainsaw to cut a tree down and also to cut some railway sleepers to size. I am not looking for anything fancy as I will only use it for the above items. Will it be cheaper to hire or buy one?
If you think buying would be the best option, any ideas where I could get a cheap one.
Thanks in advance

you also get £5 off if you do the HSS hire online, also check if you think it will take less than one day then they also do some 'same day saver' deals where you get 20% off if you return it the same day(not al equipment is in the offer), the £5 online is still valid too0

IIRC You can't hire a chainsaw unless you have the right certificate. Frankly, unless you know what you're doing I would hire a person to come and do it for you.
Even the electric chainsaws can cut your arm off.
EDIT: when we wanted a tree cut down, we got in a chap from a local fencing company we'd used before, and got it down for £20.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
