Hi
Am thinking of booking cyprus for next year and I'd love to hear personal recommendations from anyone who has been there.
ie, places to avoid, places to consider booking, we are looking to go AI and its just two of us and it'll be about september/october time.
Thanks

Cyprus is after a €10 billion EU bail out, + a shed load of a loan from the Russians.
There is a General Election early next year, and the Commie President's 'scorched earth' exit strategy is already well under way.
Loads of places have closed down, more will follow.
Read https://www.cyprus-mail.com. It's all there, and what people are thinking.0 -
Following recommendations from this Board we have had several holidays in Cyprus in the last 2 years. Going again soon. It is a very relaxed easy place to holiday. Not done anything AI. Renting a villa is easy and there is a vast price range so you will find something in budget.
Have tried both Intercontinental and Villas with Pools on Aphrodite Hills and liked both although prefer the freedom of the villa. There is golf, tennis and a very good Spa.
Latchi round near the Akamas peninsula is good for water sports. Troodos Mountains a cool day out as is a visit to Nicosia.
We are not keen on busy areas so the port around Paphos does not suit us for restaurants but we have found Tavernas in villages such as Kouklia and !!!!ouri we like. The beach at Coral Bay is very good - long - sandy - clean water - sunbeds - bars if that is some thing you want .
It is popular with Russian visitors which helps put money into the Cyprus economy.0 -
If there are only two of you, then it makes sense to go to an adults only hotel.
This might suit you...

It's not far from Paphos airport. And there's an hourly public bus from the airport which stops outside The Pioneer.
The bus carries on to Paphos Harbour, which is another 10 minutes, or you can walk along the sea front path which takes about 45 minutes.
Paphos is an okay place providing you're not too demanding. Like everywhere that have been taken over by AI, local businesses are suffering.
But like I said in my first posting, Cyprus is in a financial and economic mess, which is set to deteriorate if the local press is to be believed. And judging by reader comments to press articles there are a lot of unhappy bunnies knocking around.
How that will affect tourism in the future remains to be seen, but there seems to an increase in Russians and [believe it or not] Chinese.0 -
Ive been to Cyprus and stayed in the Grecian Sands hotel at the very end of Ayia Napa. I wouldnt go AI though, you'll miss out on all the lovely restaurants.0

I wouldn't be put off by a few Russians. We regularly visit Cyprus and all the ones we have met have been very pleasant. Not seen any Chinese people at all.
September is a good month to go if you like it warm but not searing hot.0 -
i have also stayed at grecian sands its a beautiful hotel, we stayed a couple of years ago b&b. anyone staying there would be best to request a pool view room, the first room we were offered was on the side of the hotel that overlooked the tennis courts. there wasnt an option for AI when we stayed there. as much as i liked the hotel and cyprus we spent an absolute fortune the 2 weeks we were there eating out, the most expensive holiday in the long run i have been on (we usually go A.I).
we stayed there in the september and had lovely weather, hired a car to travel the island(driving is easy same side of the road as here), booked an excursion to kyrenia northern cyprus.0 -

But they're there...

...and if you drive anywhere near Aphrodite Hills, the road signs are in Greek, English, Russian, and Chinese!Gloomendoom wrote: »September is a good month to go if you like it warm but not searing hot.
Spot-on. The intense heat and oppressive humidity will have disappeared. October and November are pleasant too.0 -
i've stayed twice at Altantic oasis in Limmasol, I did AI, as its expensive to eat out, at least with AI if you want to go out then the money is yours, you haven't got to think I have to account £xx per day for food and drink, xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0
