Cooker flame normal?

Hi there, hoping someone can advise?
We have recently replaced our cooker with a smeg duel-fuel 90cm range cooker. It replaced one that had been in our house when we moved in and was c20years old so full of quirks! This new one also seems to suffer from problems but not sure if this is normal?
If we have the oven on and then turn on one of the hob burners then there is only a very small flame even with the knob turned up to maximum. The fact that the oven is electric we thought shouldn't affect the gas??
With the oven turned off, one burner turned on by itself works great but with more than one on the flames on all the burners drop. If we have all 5 on (or the oven plus 2 burners) then the burners only show little "beads" of flame and are barely alight. This is making it quite tricky to cook with.
We have had it now about 4 weeks (bought new) and the place we bought it from have said that this is a "normal safety feature" which doesn't sound right to me and most people we know have electric cookers so have nothing to compare it to.
Does anyone else think this sounds odd? Or can anyone suggest a cause?
Many thanks :)

  • no it's not normal at all are you sure it's not an LPG model instead of nat gas ? if it is LPG it will have the wrong jets fitted, it also could be down to undersized gas pipework or low incoming gas pressure or a blockage you need to get a RGI in straight away to check it out, if you don't know anyone look on the gas safe web site & search for your area for someone that has cookers, who installed it ? they should have commissioned the cooker.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

As above - it is NOT normal.
All of the burners should work simultaneously on the maximum setting, with adjustments to one not affecting any of the others.

Their explanation sounds weird. The burners shouldn't be turning themselves down as you turn others up. That suggested the gas flow is restricted and just not enough to power the cooker properly.

Is there a problem with the gas supply to the cooker? It sounds as though the gas pipe may be crushed or kinked, which is blocking the flow.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
