Renting - unhappy - what to do?

    You are required to leave the property in the condition that you found it less wear and tear.

    If you require a modern freshly decorated property you either
    (a) Rent one.
    (b) Rent a poorly maintained flat and decorate it yourself.

    Smoke alarms are mandatory in some HMO properties, I am not aware of any properties that are required to have Cabon monoxide detectors.

    6 and 12 month tenancies are the norm. If you wanted less than 12 months, you should've asked.

    If you get anything over and above what you have now, your landlord is being generous. I do not see anything wrong/unlawful in what he has done.

    It does not matter what the rent is.

    It goes like this.

    1. You see flat.
    2. If you want it, you agree a price and terms.
    3. You sign contract.
    4. You pay money as agreed.

    If you do not like the decor you negotiate with the landlord before signing contract and get it in writing.

  • Yes IMHO it does matter what rent they are paying. If the rental in good condition is £450 per month, and they are only paying say £375 per month for bad interior decor; yes thats fine!

    But in the condition the young lady is in, then surely some people should feel compassionate with the young couple!

    Yes there are good landlords, and some bad! Hopefully her landlord will turn out one of the better ones in this CASE!
