Daft question from someone who never went to Uni........how do they cook these things? Do they have some sort of mini cooker in their rooms or do they all take turns in a communal kitchen?

Communal kitchen usually, for corridor of average 8 people (varies) - and it's a good place to make friends too as you usually chat away while cooking. We practically lived in our kitchen; and eventually had it kitted out with Dart board, stereo and randomly the entrance sign to the Liverpool Icelandic Consulate

Although some of the more modern accommodation is like bedsits, which I'd imagine would be a bit lonesome, but homely.

DW just said to me to remember to provide your DS/DD with 2 mugs and 2 glasses. She invited a friend back to her room for drink one afternoon, then remembered that her Mum had only packed her one mug, which made tea/coffee with friends quite difficult. Soon bought another one.
