BT Caller ID charges

I received my BT statement this week. It featured the usual line rental payments as I expected and a 'one-off charge ' of £4.46. There was no explanation for the charge on the bill so I rang customer services to investigate. After the obilgatory hanging on (about 10mins) I got through. It turns out that this charge was for the caller id service which had been free for the last twelve months. The person I spoke to was most apologetic and said I should have been notified. He promised to deduct the cost and the VAT from my next statment. Result! I don't get my calls from BT but I don't know if that makes a difference. I would urge everyone to try it. I hate statements and invoices when it is not completely clear what they want you to pay for.

Has been discussed a few times before.Info sent out with earlier BT bills.

The situation is that BT now charge £1.75/month charge for this feature if you don't make at least 2 chargeable calls per month through them if you are a monthly payer ,or 6 per quarter if you pay quarterly.

So use the the BT 1280 service to make 2 evening and weekend geographical calls a month through them. Which then gives you caller display for 11p a month.
