I have only just noticed, checking my latest calls with BT on line there are only 11 as I have just paid my last bill.
I have noticed that calls I made. But, the person I tried to contact was not available. (never picked up the phone).
I have been charged as much as four and a half pence, and the duration of the call lasted
point 2 of a second, is this correct, can they charge even when the person you try to contact do not answer.
I have tried to do a search to no avail, probably did not know how to word it correctly.
Anyone else had this happen to them.
Thanks.

They dont normally charge for unconnected calls. Was you dialling a normal geographic 01/02 number, did you hit voicemail.0

Yes, it's a local number starts 01.
I know I was not connected, as it was only in the last few days. Looking at my last bill I have been charged a few times for this point 2 of a second or there about's.
I have tried to phone BT to talk to someone, all I get is the run round press this press that. Don't get to talk to no one, I think I will try an e-mail see if that will work.
Thanks.0 -

In my experience you will get even less joy trying to get a response from BT via email.0 -

Yes, it could well be as you say voicemail / 1571.
We need to find out from the OP whether the people they are calling do use 1571, as it often happens to many that as they are hanging up the voicemail just kicks in without the caller realising.
Maybe they didn't used to use voicemail, but now they do.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
What is 1571? is that where a woman from BT asks do you want to leave a message?
If it is, yes they do have that. She buts in after the fifth ring tone, I end it if no answer after four.
If that is the problem can people ask BT that they do not want that service to turn it off?
Thanks0 -

Yes, 1571 is the BT Answer 1571 or other companies 1571 answer service.
It is the person you are calling that needs to switch it off.
What happens is often you think you are hanging up in time, but just aren't quick enough to cut the line before it kicks in. It's also annoying when it kicks in straight away because they are on a call.
1571 / Voicemail is just there for telecom providers to make more money. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Thanks, now I know.
what have you got to do to have it turned off?
Thanks.0 -
If they're on BT, the second part of THIS POST explains the procedure.CELTIC_YOB wrote: »Thanks, now I know.

Thanks.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
