  • I would urge any landlord who feels ripped off by their local agent to give online letting agents a go. I have used The Online Letting Agents a few times now. Their fees are transparent (they charged me £59+vat to advertise on all the big property sites, and the incoming tenant £59+vat for references). So all in, between us we paid £120. I've got to say, the level of customer service I received was far superior to my local agent who charged me a month's rent to find tenants, and then i think they charged the tenant £200 for "admin". I didn't even know my high street agent was charging the tenant...they forgot to mention that when they were trying to win my business!!

Just renewed my tenancy agreement for a further 12 months with a national letting agent.

They told me it would be £70 for the renewal, I tried (unsuccessfully) to negotiate the fee to a more reasonable figure but they wouldn't budge at all.

When we came to do the payment, all of a sudden the £70 had VAT added to it plus a £1.60 charge for paying by credit card!

Seriously? £85 to email a tenancy agreement to me to sign AND I have to return it at my expense, what a rip off

If I could find a decent private LL here in London I would go with them anyday.
