Meter readings
Does anyone else here regularly check their meters?
I check my gas, elec and water meters every sunday and note it all on a big spreadsheet
I've noticed since I started doing this that my usage is pretty consistent each week. Would still be nice to cut it down though!

Yes, but monthly is enough for me!
Since I started our usage has gone down due to extra loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, double-glazing and ES light bubls but the cost has spiralled up due to the massive increases in Gas and Electric. 81% and 51% respectively with Southern Electric in 1 year alone if I remember correctly.
EDIT: At least the dog is fluffy and keeps me warm. I'm not sure how efficient he is on the dog biscuit to warmth conversion though

Yes ctm....take 'em on a Monday and also end of the month, goes back several years. Also make a note of events.
Can clearly see when I retired, when started using a computer, fitted a load of energy bulbs,a new roof, a new AA fridge/freezer, extra loft insulation, tips from this board and so on.
What is needed now is an independent measurement of the weather.0 -
Yes I always take readings once a week and its interesting to compare usage with previous years0 -
I have areal bee on my bonnet about readings and after mega problems with NPower and a debt (grrrrrrrrrr) I am now on a key meter. It was installed yesterday and does all sorts of fab things but what I am interested in, is how many units are used. The electrician said that economy 7 is only worthwhile if you use more than 200 units a month.
So far we have used 20 units in 1 day. Is this good/awful/okish? I was quite shocked actually. I already keep lights off in rooms not used, abandoned the TD, use DW infrequently, turn things off etc etc and have energy saving bulbs where possible. Hubby thinks I am getting obsessed but as we seem to get through £85 a month (inc £3 a week for the debt) I don't think I am.
Any thoughts? If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome!

20 units per day is awful. 30 a week without storage heating is good. Your electrician should have quoted a percentage figure. He wants you to use a lot. Good for business.0
