Missed trip insurance

I was delayed due to a signal failure on the train a couple of weeks ago resulting in me arriving at the airport too late to catch a flight from Southampton to Manchester.
The cost of changing the flight to the following morning plus overnight accommodation would not be covered on my flight insurance as there was no issue with the flight itself. The maximum compensation I could get from SouthWest trains would be the £13.30 ticket cost so I ended up having to stump up for the train fare of £99.50 from Southampton to Manchester myself.
Are there any travel insurance policies with reasonable excess charges that provide cover for such eventualities? The only ones I can find don't cover for delays within the country of residence.

It is possible to get travel insurance that covers missed departure due to mechanical breakdown or the failure of public transport. I suggest you check your policy documents.0
