Santander removed overdraft overnight

Helpfully they've actually closed the entire account down. So that solves that one then. Moving banks it is!0

Well at least you're shot of that bunch! I suspect in the long run, it'll be beneficial to you0
-
The plot thickens... they've now reinstated the account and the overdraft apologising for the error!
Am pleased but now wondering what that was all about?!0 -
This exact same thing happened to my Santander account last week with my £1000 overdraft! I am as confused as you are!0

Rubbish! I've heard that a few people have had this happen to them with Santander. We were always a bit dubious about moving to them... are definately moving from them now.
Did you have your account closed down also? And has it all now been resolved?
Our cards were cancelled so are waiting for new ones to be sent to us. But its meant going into the branch and explaining each time we need cash out.
It's also meant that because the account was closed all our direct debits were removed so we have had a whole host of problems sorting that out. Thankfully most people were completely astounded and very understanding.
Am thinking there ought to be some kind of compensation though. Trips to the branch have cost us, we're going to have to pay a late fee for one our bills, and virgin can't promise they won't cut off our mobiles (despite explaining the situation). I'd be interested to know if others were successful in getting compensation!0 -
You need to make a written complaint to the bank. Note any charges you have encountered and the time spent. Then add a bit of compensation for stress etc.:beer:0

I work for a bank the above is complete crap to be honest, sorry. We do not make situations worse, we work with customers to help make their situations better.Debt free once - Back again | Current debt: £2479.50 - January 2025 | Make £2025 in 2025 #11 - £41/£20250 -
I'd like to believe it but I'm not sure that is necessarily true. The branch manager agreed was as "helpful" as he could be but he didn't have the authority to reinstate the account or the overdraft. The bank has not responded to our correspondence sent last week, nor have they apologised for the error and nor have they done anything to put right all our direct debits, or reinstate our cards despite asking face to face. Our account has been reinstated with the overdraft facility that's it. Over two weeks on we are still having to traipse into town to get cash over the counter for all our spending, sort bills out in cash (which isn't I've discovered that straightforward) and having to explain why each time. We have people chasing bills now and our telephone was disconnected despite phoning before to explaining our situation.0

In other words your a cashier or work in a call centre where that makes your comment invalid.
Banks do make situations worse when people address their financial difficulties it's been known to happen on numerous occasions as seen on this site.
Ps when you were applying for your basic account as you had debt with the other banks did you apply to your own bank?0
