Natwest/RBS PPI claims

Hi all,
I'm having difficulty with RBS. I had a loan with Natwest 9 years ago (total £20,000) and I was mis-sold PPI (told I had to have the protection otherwise I would not be accepted)
I started a claim with Natwest on 25th June, I got a letter 2 days later saying please allow 8 weeks etc., on the 21st August eight weeks had elapsed and I called the PPI concerns team to establish what stage they were at, they told me that a FDL had been sent on 9th August (offering me £6960) but I never received it! They told me that I had to wait for a full two working weeks to pass without receiving it before they could put in a request to raise a new letter (?) so I did as I was told.
Last week (after the bank holiday) I called to let them know that the letter still hadn't arrived and one of their representatives said that he would email the correct department and get the letter re-sent BUT I would have to allow a further two weeks for delivery...
I called today to check that the letter had been despatched and I was told that it STILL hadn't been sent, "due to a backlog" they wouldn't be sending it this week, I'd need to allow at least another 15 days and that the amount offered now stood at £6717...
Is this normal? Am I being mucked about? what can I do? why is the amount dropping?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the frustration is immense and I really need the money ASAP...

  • Anyone????
  • Are you certain the redress amount has changed, or have you just misheard the information given in these telephone calls?
Only the bank can tell you for sure...
  • TBH the amount I was given on the previous occasions were what the advisor totalled it up to, but today the advisor gave me the total amount that is on the paperwork that I still haven't seen!
Is it normal to be messed about with timescales?
Why can they not email me the letter?
It is like they are delaying intentionally...do you see/hear of similar cases?

Often, but most people just receive the letters without making telephone calls to check on "progress". By constantly calling them you risk being given inaccurate information...
  • I agree, only without calling them I wouldn't have known that the letter had been sent/lost and neither would they.

It gets to a point where you then lose trust and start to think that they had 'perhaps' never even sent the letter and 'perhaps' the delays were a ploy on their behalf.

My questions were primarily to identify whether this was common practice or was I unlucky and obviously if anyone had information as to how I might be able to get them to either post it out on priority or whether I had a subsequent claim for undue hardship.
  • My oh is getting the runaround with rbs (right bull !!!!) too. He received a letter at the end of June informing him he was to receive approx £6500 in ppi refund and it's never appeared. They are now saying he's in an IVA - we live in Scotland where IVAs don't exist - it's trust deeds we have and he's never had one of them either.

Can you imagine owing them £6500 for 2 months - by God they'd never be off the phone!
Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper . :p:D

You can have no "subsequent claim".

You mean additional compensation for the delay as part of the redress, highly unlikely unless you go to the FOS and then wait for another 2 years. Ring and insist on speaking to someone more senior, alternatively e-mail Stephen Hester if that doesn't work.

    Good luck!
