Energy Saving bulbs for outside light

Hi

We have lamps outside front and back door which come on if anyone comes to door. Both take a standard 60w bulb. Both come on quite frequently because of house position (end terrace) and our cats coming in and out of cat flap. Standard energy saving bulbs aren't suitable as we need immediate light, not delayed brightness. Has anyone come across energy saving bulbs that reach full light when switched on?

  • You can't use energy saving lamps in those kinds of lights as a small amount of current needs to pass through the lamp for the sensor to work. This can make the lamp flicker and will normally blow after a short time. You are better off with notmal tungsten fillament lamps in these types of light fitting!

    You may be right.

However I have had low energy bulbs in my outside PIR lights for many years and have never changed the bulbs?

Thanks folk. I'll give low energy bulbs a try, but not sure how they'll cope with reaching full power before we fall over the door step.

I also have outside low energy bulbs on PIR – simply working on and off. Some bulbs are better than others for coming brighter sooner. Find the ones with the curly end, brand make, quite good.

It’s the dimmer lights where the problem is with energy bulbs.
