Lots of Help Needed

Hi there,

I am doing some work on behalf of my Grandfather-in-law and have come across some weird and wonderful things in is bank statements that he's be paying out for years and years.

I'm going to need advice across the board but first of all i will start with some payments for what appears to be boiler insurance??

To date there is a monthly payment going to;

British Gas Servs for £51.99 a month

I'm guessing this is a Homecare Product but surely this is a ridiculously high price? This payment dates back as far as 04/09/06 except back then he was paying £17 a month. Why the price hike, could we reclaim etc etc? By Dec 06 he was paying out £27.62 so it's been rising steeply ever since.

Strangely though, there are also payments going to 'Homeserve' every month. They started in Mar 07 with payments of £17.42 but now he pays out £28.92 a month. So nearly £80 a month altogether.

They look like the same product too?? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

The problem with my GFIL is that he can't read so doesn't know what he's signing and he left all financial stuff in his wifes hands but she passed some years back so has found himself in a bit of a pickle lately. especially as he's been playing the infamous 'Australian Lottery'. Makes me furious.

Thanks in advance

    Homecare is from British Gas, can't understand how it is costing as much as you say. I'd check with BG, if they will talk to you.I supposeif you taken boiler controls and system, plumbing and electrical it all adds up.

    Homeserve offer similar products and are often introduced by the water companies, like Severn Trent.
    That gum you like is coming back in style.

    He doesn't need either cover, let alone two! If he can pay out all that every month then he can afford a independent local RGI should a breakdown actually happen.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • That's the problem. As he can't read he gets nervous so just ends up saying yes to everything and signing anything that's put in front of him. He has an excellent pension too but is wasting money left right and center.
    He got a loan from Lloyds that he's paying 24% apr on!!

    I'm afraid that until you can enclose a letter signed by your GFIL, to each supplier you have a query with giving you the authority to act on his behalf, none of them will discuss the account with you.
