Tiler mistakes - Advice required

Hi,
My tiler has messed up the tiling in my en-suite. As per the pictures along 3 walls there is a gap between finished tiles and ceiling. One wall is ok as this is the one (only one) he took his measurments from. The gap is probably 2-3cm at the biggest.
In addition the other picture which I am not sure if you can see clearly shows the finish around the window. Again gap left which is bigger at left hand side and tails off to right hand side of window.
Now my questions are what would be the best solutions to these 2 problems? Secondly how would you approach this with the tiler? From what I can see these are basics for a tiler and all walls/windows etc should be measured to avoid this happening.
How would you approach this, would you ask for money off, how much if so? Do you ask him to make good no matter what the cost is?
No payment has been made yet and would really appreciate some advice, especially from tilers themselves.

He never worked out the spacing requirements first, you have had a job done on the cheap by an amateur
youtube.comSignature removed club member No1.
It had no link, It was not to long and I have no idea why.0 -
I think the most I'd pay for that is nothing.
TBH, I'd want it done again from scratch.0 -
Yes I understand but is there any tilers out there that can advise on how to save this without removing all the tiles?
I know I could add another sheet of plasterboard to roof which would cover the gap, but this would mean refitting downlights, skimming and painting.
Trying to repair as best I can to avoid too much work/expense.
Are you guys tilers? Would a tiler advise that I should ask him to start again?0 -
Not a tiler, but i would get it redone as it will annoy you forever and a day. A bodge solution maybe a different type of trim round the door and lower the ceiling as suggested. But is the comprise worth it?0

I would expect any tiler to avoid errors such as these; that's why you employ a professional.
I don't see any remedy except to start from scratch, at his expense.0 -
ive had my tiling 1/2 done for 6 months now, but if i had a gap like that on the 1st picture (i do on one side), i will just fill it in with sealant, its not like the tiles are skew-wif, a blast of sealant will look nice.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

I am certainly not a tiler, but the job isn't even finished yet, maybe it will look better when it is done.
Maybe it is your window and ceiling that are not aligned, which is why there are differing gaps, made all the more obvious because there are now tiles in place.
I don't see how a tiler would be able to compensate for a ceiling or window which is running out of line?0 -
Helllo Liam, you are indeed correct and the walls are not aligned. But this is the case in just about every single house there is and it is a tilers job to recognise this and correctly space out with this in mind.
A professional job will take into account the variances and cut the tiles accordingly so they fit in properly.0 -
Yes, I get that, but wouldn't that just mean that there is a gap at the bottom instead? The size of the tiles won't change.
Or it might just be me that doesn't get it.
The gaps on your tiling doesn't look great, but to be fair it isn't finished yet.0 -
As a tiler I can say with some certainty that your tiler did not set out properly and went with a best fit with full tiles. The window may not be square in the wall, but the tiler should have seen this on doing his setting out and explained it. You could have had the window reveal plastered at the top to level it out. (Easy job that the tiler could have done).
Get him to redo the whole job at his expense or don't pay him and get a real pro to do it.
Good luck.0
