I currently have a step account with Ulster bank.
Well today i checked my balance and o crap negative moneys not good. So i am wondering if i upgrade my account to a current account will that negate the bank charge of £10?
Also to get a current account do i need to have a job at the moment i'm unemployed and on the dole :S so I'm going down at 9:30 to see if they will charge me i'm hoping not but is there anyway to avoid this if the current account idea falls through? thanks in advance guys.

Usually if it's under £10 overdrawn they won't charge you a fee. That stands with HSBC at least. Also a current account simply depends on your credit rating. You don't have to be working to have a current account. I have 2 and I am a housewife. The only things that go into my account are CSA, carers allowance, my sons DLA and child tax credits. Only the carers allowance is considered a wage because it's taxable and you probably get more in benefits than that.
Hope that helped.0 -
Certainly, Natwest and RBS don't charge if you're less than £5 overdrawn, I suspect that it'll be the same with Ulster, but best to double check.0

Alright well i thought i would post back what happened, apparently if you are overdrawn while on a step account as long as you can bring the negative total back to 0 before 1:30 pm they won't charge you, which is helpful but hopefully i won't be in that position again. Thanks pmduk and mummy_jonno for repling to the thread
