Car Insurance with previously cancelled policy?

Hi,!

Hope someone can advise what to do here!

My brother (20yrs old) is at renewal time with his car insurance. 13months go he was 11months into his first policy as a main driver when he changed car & job at the same time. He called his insurer Tesco to update with his new details & they told him that they would need to cancel his policy with immediate effect as they wouldn't insure car salesman! He doesn't use his car during his work at all, only for driving there & back.!

They agreed to provide him with 1yrs no claims bonus (he was only 2weeks away from getting it anyway) & a letter confirming the reason for cancellation.!

He found it very difficult to get insurance due to cancelled policy but eventually got insured with a company underwritten by Aviva, but for a high price. Now he has come to renewal time & his renewal is still very expensive. He can't get renewal quotes online due to cancellation.!

Is he going to have this problem for life? Is there anything he can do about it?

I should say that none of his colleagues have had this trouble with car insurance & some of them are even with Tesco.

If His policy was cancelled due to his change of job rather than any default then he is wrongly being discriminated against.

A local broker (not swinton) should be able to resolve this issue.

I presume under 'has he ever had his insurance policy cancelled?' he is clicking 'yes'. I wonder if this could be considered cancelled by him and he click no.... hmm... probably naughty though

Definitely not default. Cancelled due to change of job. It was a case of the computer says no. They just said it was a higher risk job, but couldn't explain why.

He did consider this, but the consequences are too great. If he had an accident, they could refuse a payout.

As posted if he explains the circs to his chosen insurer this "cancellation" will be disregarded.

His job may still mean he will not find too many off the peg insurers will take him.
