Double glazing condensation

Hi

Had replacement windows installed back in June and thought that would be the end of condensation. A couple of days this week have woken to find a thin film of condensation on the OUTSIDE of the windows including the bedroom where the window has been left open. The condensation is definitely on the outside and not in the cavity.

Looking at other houses in our road with replacement windows our house is the only one with the problem.

Do I have a problem or is this something that is likely to sort itself out over time

Thank you for your help

Its fairly common if they used "softcoat" energy efficient glass and nothing to worry about. If it was within the cavity then it would be a problem.

The temp has dropped a few degree over the last few nights and we were getting the usual layer of condensation on out bedroom windows again. I bought a dehumidifier off Gumtree for £40 and I'm amazed. The condensation on all the bedroom windows has disappeared over night and the water that's being collected is around 5-10 litres per day. It's made a huge difference. Please try one

I was told that condensation on the outside of the windows is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

IMHO there's no need for a dehumidifier unless the condensation is on the inside of the windows.

Tho I still love my dehumidifier
  • The condensation on the outside of the window is a sign that your windows have a low conductivity (loose little heath to the outside) which is what we all want from good double glazing. The outside window pane is able to cool down and the dew decides to settle on this cold surface, without the pane being 'heathed' up by the inside warmth of the house. This has nothing to do with a potential humidity problem inside the house, so count your blessings.

Perhaps you would prefer to have condensation on the inside of your windows. You are worrying about something that is not actually a problem.

Just so long as I don't want much.

    Well said.

I presume the windows left open are at an angle. Close them and it will not happen as much. It is dew more than condensation.

    Nothing to worry about.
