Thread Subscriptions

Not particularly comp based but noticed in the last couple of days, I am now receiving an email for every new post for any thread that I am subscribed to? Before I used to get just one email until such a time I was able to click and read the thread? Today for example I have had lots of emails every time someone has posted.

Has something changed with the forums?

Thanks

  • Hi,

click on User CP at top of forum, and scroll down to 'Default Thread Subscription Mode' check setting, I keep mine to no notification.
  • Thanks, but I do want a subscription ie one email (even if there has been lots of posts since I last looked).

This is going to flood my inbox during the day when I am at work?
Before I would get one email for the thread subscription so when I got home from work, clicked the link and could read all the posts in that thread. That is the way I want it to be, as it was?

    Hopefully I have explained OK?

hi, i'm subscribed to lots of threads,
& have always recieved notification for every post posted on the subscribed thread, i keep mine at Instant notification by email,
every time someone bumps or replies on the thread you've subscribed to you get each one, it's always been that way
    on my subscribed threads :)

  • No definitely not for me. This just changed in the last couple of days. I have just seen there is a MSE site forum so have posted in there and see they have changed something re the email notifications in the last couple of days.

Don't know if I have explained well but take for example this thread. In the past if someone replied say at 08.00 I would receive an email notification. Lets say I am at work and cannot access MSE until I finish work in the evening. Then lets say someone else replied at 08.05, I would not receive an email notification for this second post at 08.05.

So, I come home at 5.00, click on the link from the one email notification I have received re this thread and it takes me to the post at 08.00 and then I can read that post and all the subsequent posts (for which in the past I would not receive an email for).

Take for example very busy threads like the Pepsi comp thread a wee while ago. I would receive one email notification and when I came home I could see there were probably hundreds of new posts that day.The way it has been the last couple of days would mean I would have hundreds of email notifications in my inbox?

I use lots of other forums and most work the way I have described above ie one email notification until such a time as you go and read the post irrespective of how many new posts have been made.

Hopefully I have explained better :D

hiya, yep, you've explained great :Aunderstand what you mean now :o
i thought it was the norm to have every post sent when subscribed as i've always had them even if someone has just posted a thanks/quick reply/etc so i do get loads every day,
will go look where you've asked/posted, thanks :A

You can set it to have a just one daily email instead of instant notifications.

Go to "edit options" and then under subscriptions, make sure that "Daily email notification" is selected and then scroll down and click save. :)

way i'm reading it is he's saying the previous system wasn't
consistent so sometimes you didn't get all the instant emails, but now you will ?? because they've changed it to make sure we do,
mine must have been working all the time then 'cause i get every one & have always done same as fermi,
hope they can sort it for you xx

hmm, never tried that setting though have noticed it LM,
if you've that one do you still get all the daily notifications for each reply/bump etc or just one for the whole thread ?

I normally have mine set to "no notification" but when I did have it set to daily, you got one email for the replies for that day, usually at the end of the day and in the email it usually gave a list of what the replies were. Not sure if it's changed now though. It was aggggggggggges ago. :p

    :D lol @ :p:D

if i'm reading you right then on that setting you got one email but with a list of the replies for that day,

i'm subscribed to this CCC (compers chat corner) & have instant notification selected BUT every day just get one email with a list of the threads that have been updated in it so can pick & choose which one i want to read,

but, with say ie: puzzler.com/tab monthlies thread/single posts i get a single email notification for each post made,

i've now subscribed to this thread to see & am getting
each posting posted sent to me :D:rotfl:
