If an individual can't afford it then they should ask someone else to help pay it in some kind of mutually beneficial arrangement.

So rents should be higher than mortgage payments?

Oh yeah I forgot about the freedom, you get to pay more and could be kicked out at 2 months notice because a stanger feels like it, sounds well worth a premium.

Interestingly the average council/HA rent is less than a mortgage yet private rents are more than mortgages... which one is doing it right?

We keep on reading fancy calculations on here about how renting is so much more beneficial, especially when you consider the mandatory 2-yearly boiler, roof and double glazing replacements.
  • Rents are about right, mortgages are about right - the problem is strict lending And deposits

I can't see a problem with lending critera and deposits, yes its a culture shock from the previous free for all but they are more than reasonable.

When you say rents are right you talking private or council?

    Certainly.
I have to pay off the mortgage so it's nice to have a bit left over for some of the finer things. Or perhaps to expand and buy another property. The money has to come from somewhere you know.

Quite right. I saved. You've saved. It's perfectly possible.

I am not going to bite on the first one.

But hey we finally agree on something!

I had to replace my roof 3 times this year already, renters don't know how good they have it.
