Gps

Hi, I have just got a new android tablet which has GPS installed. However, it doesn't seem to work outside the house!!! Does something need setting? There is no manual with the tablet.

Thanks.

Ok we need to know what tablet it is.
Also GPS generally doesn't work inside buildings due to the satellites not being visible to the tablet. It is likely that the tablet has used google/internet location to determine where you are. It is also likely that the tablet does not contain a GPS receiver (although not impossible)

OK have just experimented and if I set it inside the house then get into the car it owrks perfectly. This would, however, mean I couldn't get home again!!!

I think it is called a Land cruiser works on Ice Cream sandwich. It has google maps. All a bit technical for me I just want to turn it on and use it :o

How do you know the GPS works inside your house and not outside?

Do you mean you have a navigation application on your tablet that can only find where it is when inside your house? If so, perhaps it is finding it's location based upon wi-fi rather than GPS.

You could do with posting an actual maker, model name, number etc. Searching for Land Cruiser will only find a Toyota car.

Where did you buy it from? Can the retailer help?

    sorry it is:
FreeLander PD20 Great Version 8GB Android 4.0 (ICE CREAM SANDWICH) , 7-Inch Multi-touch Capacitive Screen, Dual Camera, GPS, 1.6 GHz Android Tablet PC via Amazon.

Went on a trip today and it constantly said trying to find location.
When I set it in the house and then go to the car it works fine, which is why I am wondering if it needs wifi in order to find the route.

If you are out and about (away from wifi hotspots) you will need a constant 3G connection for it to work. I guess your tablet does not support 3G?

Well I does say it has GPS built in.
It may take some time to lock onto the satellites.
When mounted in your car turn on the gps and turn on your map software.
It should have a signal level on the gps saying how accurate it is at the time.

You may want to install GPS Status from Google Store.

google maps needs an internet connection (3G or wifi)to show the maps you need an app that holds the maps on the tablet, there is a free one on playstore

It did seem to be locked onto a satellite as it showed us where we were, but would not direct us to where we wanted to go. If I entered the place I was going BEFORE leaving the house it did.

I'm sorry if I'm not being very clear but as I said I'm not very techie

Yes you can do your route planning before you leave home (using your wifi connection) but this will not update in real time on the move unless you are connected to the internet.
