I have just come back from my local Homebase with a patio rose that cost £1.66 and a tray of 12 violas for ......wait for it.......10p !! Admittedly one of the violas was shrivelled up but the rest were fine and at that price who cares! The rose looks quite healthy and has one flower bud on it so I have potted it up, trimmed it a bit and watered like mad and now have my fingers crossed that it starts to grow nicely (then I'll plant it by the patio). There was another patio rose (different colour) for the same price but I couldn't carry that as well.....might go in tomorrow on my way home from work to see if it's still there. The plants were just sitting by the trolleys in our outdoor Garden centre bit with no signs indicating that they were reduced so keep your eyes peeled!!

Went back in this morning- violas were back up to £3 and the rose was £3.32 wish I had got more at the time now .......ho hum !

B&Q do the same, my local one has a huge reduced to clear section and a lot of my garden plants have come from there. Some of the best bargains are the collections in fancy pots though as when the plants are completely dead they tip the compost and shrivelled remains out and sell on the empty pots for 50p or £1. I've had some lovely pots this way that would otherwise cost £10-£20 new off the shelf.

  • I've been going to my local homebase once a week to get some bargains, have a patio carrot kit for 99p which includes soil, grow bag and seeds. Also got a dwarf bean one too!
  • Thanks for the heads up!! My garden has been looking a bit thin I will check out my local homebase and see if I can pick up a few bargains! :-)
