I have a longstanding current account with Halifax that's been open about 5 years. It comes with chequebook, debit card, high overdraft limit etc
I just called them today to order a replacement chequebook. The customer services person said the system is not letting her send out a replacement chequebook because there is a
"STATEMENTS TO BRANCH" indicator on my account
I asked what this means and I did not get a very clear explanation. She said the account is working normally aside from the fact that any statements or chequebooks can only be sent to the branch, possibly because letters have previously been 'returned to sender' when sent to my home address. I said OK well it's fine to just get the chequebook sent to my branch and I will collect it from there. She said that is not possible as Halifax are no longer allowed to send customers' chequebooks to the branch. I asked her how I can resolve this issue and she said, "I don't know. Sorry."

Suggest 1. Call again. Don't mention previous call. Order cheque book and see what you are told this time. 2. Go to branch. Order cheque book. See what happens. 3. Order cheque book via ATM. See what happens.
If they refuse to send the cheque book to your home and they refuse to send it to your branch then they are refusing you a replacement cheque book and you can make official complaint.
Do you actually need this cheque book? I have loads of unused cheque books at home because I don't think I have actually written a cheque for more than a year!
Just out of curiosity, do you still recieve paper statements at your home or do you go to your branch to collect them or what?0 -
Thank you for your reply. I receive online statements actually. The last time they sent me a chequebook was about a year ago and it arrived without problems. I don't desperately need a chequebook but it would be mildly useful.
I followed your advice and called them again. They said the same thing, that they cannot send out a chequebook. Very odd. They aside from that everything is operating fine on the account and they even offered me a credit card. I suppose I can survive without a chequebook.....0 -

Did they say why?0 -
If you can pop into your branch, could be from when the systems moved over last year and probably just a block on the account preventing cheque books being ordered which can easily be removed. Explain to them though you've had to make phone calls and made a special trip in to resolve this

And if you want a credit card then do it whilst it branch, at least give the colleague who resolved the problem some credit rather than the one on the phone who can't be bothered to do anything about it but quite clearly wants to sell you something!0 -
I recently opened up a reward current account too, when the £100 switching offer was on.
I got the letter saying the account had been set up and the card, pin number and cheque book would be with me in 7 working days.
The cheque book did not arrive so I called up to ask where it was they said they could not order it on the phone and I'd need to go into the branch.
I said I'd go in branch. As it was not imperative they send me a cheque book, and did not want to be sold in branch, I left it.
Seven days later, after that call, a cheque book arrived in the post!!!0
