Depends what you mean by "lifting". If you mean at the centre where its most used then you might want to take the gamble. Personally, I would not penny pinch on this. You might get away with it but you may find that in 5 years time it powders. I have a very good carpet 20 years old and the very good underlay has gone to powder in the last 5 years. Do you really want to risk adverse wear on the 5 year old carpet and/or the cost of replacing the underlay in 5 years time?
I would not be concerned about reusing the gripper.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
sorry worded it wrong i just mean when we lifted the old carpet to underlay looks sound, but your right i guess it's one of those "save now pay later" choices0

Easy saving , BUT, what you need to do is reverse the underlay.
IE, ensure what was sat on the tread is now on the riser.
All the wear is on the tread, the riser will be virgin,;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

and we will never, ever return.0 -
So when you get to the top, you have an extra flat bt , so you just put that one on the bottom riser, nice one. Brilliant.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I aim to please,:o:o.
The only bit of carpet we have in the house is on the stairs, purely for safety's sake.
It's an open stair case, ie each tread has a folded around underlay pad. You can still apply the same principle even in that case.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
