Need some advice if possible!
Looking for a particular second hand car in certain colour - have searched locally with no joy but our local Ford garage have found one on their database but it's 200 miles away. They say for £250 deposit from us they will purchase the car for their garage with a view to us buying it & transport it up here. However as we can only see a photo of it prior to it arriving we are slightly concerned that when I asked if we definitely get the deposit back if we don't like it for any reason they said only if something was wrong with it such as unacceptable scratches or torn seats etc - not just because we didn't like it.
Surely this is covered by Distance Selling Regulations where we can have a refund for ANY reason within so many days?
Sorry to waffle on but can't afford to lose £250 at the moment. Car is £8500 by the way so not wasting their time looking at old bangers!

Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

If it was me and I really wanted that car, I would go the 200 miles myself. Go with someone else who can drive. Surely there and back wouldn't cost you £250. Then if you did want to buy it, drive it back there and then. No way would I even consider paying them the £250.0

If it was covered by the DSR's (I'm not sure if it is) . Then you would be responsible for returning it to the seller which would probably cost a fair bit. The seller is not responsible for return postage if you change your mind (only if it's faulty).0

Also, the 'selling' dealer will get a profit, the 'buying' dealer will get a profit and there'll be transportation charges too, so as you say I'd be making the journey and negotiated a decent discount, rather than let everyone get some profit on the way through0 -
Tell the dearler to go and swim with the ducks!!
At 30 MPG 250 miles would cost you £58 at £ 1.40 per ltrSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -

Unless you live in the Highlands, I'm sure you will find your choice of colour of Ford within 20 miles not 200.
There is no way that you would get back your deposit on this as slinging the car on their transporter and taking it 200 miles could easily be billed to wipe out that entire amount.

DSR would apply but only if you bought the car without any face to face contact.
As (I guess) you've been to your local dealer and you haven't bought the car then DSR doesn't apply0 -
The garahe wont be BUYING the car from the other dealer. just transporting it.
The £250 they ask foir is to cover their costs of internal transport.
i'd persoanlly find out which dealership its at and phone them. Ask if they'd hold it while you drove the 200 miles.
Even in a V8 it'll still be cheaper than £250 to drive there and back..0 -
If its a large chain with a local branch pop in and have a look around.
Print off your exact spec and say your willing to put a desposit down now for a car that matches that spec.
Make sure your max price is what the other dealer is selling it for or slightly less.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
