What to do about this noise problem?

Over the last few months we have had regular noise problems, the issue being that we can't tell where it is coming from.
It sounds like a venue is holding events outside overnight, we can hear a DJ and loud music (with all the windows closed) and last night this went on from 10pm to 8am!
We live on the 4th floor of a block on top of a small hill and when you are on the ground all the trees make it difficult to hear where it is coming from. I tried driving around but the land makes it impossible to work out where it originates (but it isn't close).
I spoke to the council and they said they couldn't do anything without an address, I had hoped that someone else might of complained who was closer to the source and would know where it was coming from, but they couldn't tell me that.
Not sure where to go from here.

Have you any warehouses nearby where illegal raves could be held?0
-
Not as far as I am aware, its coming from a direction that is mostly playing fields.0

Living on the 4th floor suggests you live in a built up area? Surely you aren't the only one to have noticed it going on for months?0

speak to your neighbours?
post something on facebook?
sounds like torture

I know what you mean. Sound can travel, so check for the closest nightclub/venue and compare playlists? I wonder if the noise comes from away than you expected, which happens to me with some outside usually day time events.0

Have you checked licencing applications? I once had a similar problem and could have sworn the noise came from somewhere off to the west - turned out to be from a student bar a good half mile away to the south.0

Have you tried googling party/event/concert etc and your area? It might bring something up, and then if you keep a record of the dates you can verify if you've found the right place.0
