Buildings and contents cost?

How much do you pay on your combined buildings and contents , ive been paying Zurich £55 a month for longer than i can remember after they sent me a snotty letter yesterday i went and did a comparision website and it looks like im been ripped off big time, We live in a cul de sac very quiet area very low next to none crime, house is worth £200k and havent claimed in 7 years plus.
If when i phone Zurich tomorrow im expecting they wont let me walk away without trying to make me pay more money i cant remember when its renewal time.
Id be interested to hear what everyone else is paying and with who

Pointless question is asking, it doesnt really go on the value of your house that much (it will to some extent). It depends on where your house is, the construction, type of property, how many bedrooms, whether its close to a river/stream/the sea etc.

    There are too many variables.

You will always find if you shop around you can beat your renewal, insurers usually offer1 year cheaply to entice you in and then bump it up in the hope you will forget or not be bothered moving.

Wow, that's a lot of money per year.
I'm in about the same position as you, pay mine annually and it costs me just over £200.

Do you not have any paperwork. If not, when you ring them, ask when the renewal date is, shop around then.

Be aware of the auto renewal, when they send you your letter a couple of weeks before its due, it will say 'you dont have to do anything and wel will auto renew;' that's the time you must ring and them that you dont want to renew, don't use the word 'cancel' you must do this or they will just go ahead

If you cancel it now, you would probably be liable for cancellation and admin charges.

Probably same with the car if you have one.

I've just renewed for less than half that, small terraced, 3 claims in last 5 years. The renewal quote was actually cheaper than comparison sites.

If you are paying monthly it's usually easy to cancel even if it is not your renewal date providing you have not claimed since you last renewed.

You will usually have a cancellation or admin fee if you want to change your insurance before the renewal date (some companies will reimburse all or part of this for switching mid term when you take out new insurance with them).

I'm sure you can get a better deal elsewhere but make sure that you are comparing like for like - cover levels, accidental damage & especially excesses.

Companies typically quote 30 - 90 days in advance of renewal date so if your renewal is within this you may be able to avoid cancellations fees.
  • Cancellation is no easier or harder if you are paying monthly or annually as the same terms and conditions apply. The only exception to this is if you have a monthly policy, but these are rare, and just because you have been given credit for an annual policy doesnt make it a monthly one.

Certainly check the T&Cs for cancellation before making the move

Why? We all live in different post code areas, have different types of property, different amounts of contents etc.
