short term car insurance

I live in Canada but return to the U.K. every year as I have a house here. I also have a car which I really need to get around during my visits, however I have a problem getting insurance for say 1 month at a time. I always get the MOT & Tax Disc but so far have had to get car insurance on a 'pay monthly' schedule then cancel it when I leave & send in the SORN. I also have to make sure the bank cancels any standing order with the car insurance before I go. Is there any insurance company that insures expats for short term. I have had a U.K. drivers licence for over 40 years & have U.K. bank accounts plus a U.K. address etc. There must be others in the same boat - can anyone help? Thanks.

He fact you have your own car is the problem - who is the registered keeper? It would require a UK address to be valid, and most insurers require he insured to be he RK too.
Something like Whipcar is a good alternative as insurance is included at £5 per day, and be car is thrown in too!0 -
Short term insurance is possible but is probably dearer than paying for a full policy and cancelling it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Thanks Buzby: I am the registered keeper & I bought the car in 2004 for 600 quid. I get an MOT & tax disc every year & then send in a SORN from the airport as I leave. I keep the car in a locked garage & every year I arrive & plug it in to boost the battery & it starts FIRST TURN - the car is great for what I invested & paid for itself the first year. I also have a valid address that I lock up & turn off electricity & gas etc. when I leave. I have had my U.K. licence since I was 17, long before I left for Canada. So far I have got insurance on a monthly payment plan & then cancelled by mail when I leave & also make sure the standing order is cancelled at the bank (I have a bank a/c in U.K. so I don't have to worry about exchange rates, can pay bills, buy my train tickets on-line before I arrive & send pressies to U.K. friends etc). I'm just worried that they will catch on & deny me insurance/get flagged or something. I just wanted to stay above board with them. There must be others in my situation. By the way Zipcar won't work for me as my house & car are in a remote part of Wales with a scant bus service etc. that's why I really needed a car just to get to the shops & main town. I don't go farther than about 50 miles & if I do I take the train - to London etc. Thanks for your help anyway.0
