    It's the only organisation I've seen do it that way; all others I've used lump it together as you say... and I've been with a fair few other banks/building societies in my time.

  • Is there any particular reason why anybody needs large amounts of cash these days?
    Surely safer to use faster payments or cards?

    In my case I was buying a car. Card payment not accepted.

    Some people just prefer to transact in cash - makes spending more real.
    Also with interest rates so low there is much less incentive to keep funds in a current or savings account.

    Large transactions like a car purchase are best done with large denominations such as £100s rather than a bundle of £20s though!

    True they could have but in the end it was the seller of the car who requested method of payment not the person who paid for it in cash.
