What engine is it, petrol or diesel? Assuming it has a belt and not a chain newer Fords with Duratec petrol engines do/did have chains, then you're looking at around £250 at an independent garage. This should be inclusive of belt and tensioner, and also factoring in the water pump as you might as well as this hasd to be removed anyway, and they often leak water if you put the old ones back on!

Some places such as 'Mr Clutch' do fixed price for like £100 but that will not include a water pump, and probably not a tensioner or very good workmanship for that price!

If you do find out it has a chain, no need to change as a routine, unless it starts to rattle!
  • can i ask whose told you it needs changing. if its a dealership then ask them their price then say can i get back to you after youve got some other quotes. theyll phone you back in a week asking how you got on with ur quotes. tell them the dealership price minus £75 see what they say. i normally get my servicing/ repairs down from £180 to £99 this way. good old haggling
