New to ebay

Hi everyone,

We're moving house in May, and Ive decided everything I dont want/no longer have need of, im going to sell.

These will be things like kids clothes that are too small for them, cuddly toys (I used to collect these when I was younger, and some of them are really quite big), clothes I no longer use, old records (yes records), and enything else I can find.

Can I just ask advice as to how you parcel them up? what do you use? where do you buy the stuff from to parcel them up? How you you parcel up items that could break easily? and also, how do you work out the postage?

Sorry for all these questions, but, I would be grateful for any advice.

Ok, anything fragile use bubblewrap. Clothes can be packed in plastic mails bags, they have sticky strip so very easy to pack - marker to write address, larger items, bubble wrap and then wrap in an opend bin liner (or 2). All packing materials are available on Ebay and will be delivered right to your door lol and are ten times cheaper than buiying from a shop.

Regards to shipping - most stuff can go through post office. BUT if it is going to be very heavy or large use a courier called payperdrop - you can do a search for them on ebay, the collect the next working day, and deliver next working day. I use them regularly and they hae never let me down, also they only cost £5.99 and collect from your home/place of choice.

Postage for me is just a rough guess, but I would recommend getting a pair of scales, visit royalmail.com and they give you a price list, but when listing postage prices on your listing, take into account your ebay, paypal, packing and time costs.

Obviously anything far too heavy like a sofa, you can list for collection only.

    Good luck!

    Thanks,

I best get cracking and get up that loft. I didnt know anything at all about the packaging, so the info youve given me about getting it all from ebay is great. Thank you.

Just make sure you factor in your listings cost, check what similar items have sold for recently -its not a great time for toys at the moment.
  • The cheaper you can get packing materials (or free!) the better. My local pound shop does padded envelopes, bubble wrap, packs of 3 rolls of parcel tape all (obviously) for £1. The other day I was at the checkout in Tesco and on the floor were fruit/veg boxes with loads of bubble wrap. Asked if I could have it - no problem. I save stronger type carrier bags for parceling clothes in. Boxes I tend to get free from my local garden centre and all my shredded paper (junk mail etc) is great for packing these out. In fact anything I come across that would make good packing material I keep. Oh, and I always write my labels in permanent ink in case they get rained on.
