Bought a car with a disabled tax disc
Options
Hi,
I picked up my new (used) car from the garage yesterday and have noticed this morning that it has a disabled tax disc in it that runs out at the end of September.
The salesman took the V5C for my old car - which I was trading in - and gave me the Section 10 (New Keepers Details) of the V5C for the new car and said I should receive the full V5C form from the DVLA within the next 4 weeks.
Will the taxation of my new car be sorted by the DVLA?

Should have been more on the ball with this one. Potentially if you get stopped you could be in trouble, but I would keep my head down and renew normally at the end of the month, assuming DVLA don't point it out to you.
Proper advice would be get it taxed but you will need the V5C for that, sp a bit of chicken and egg.0 -
I'm sure you can use the section 10 bit to tax the car at a post office, take it in along with the mot and insurance certificate. The only problem you may have is that when they scan the bar code it may tax it as a disabled vehicle again. They may be able to override this though not sure.0

You'll need to change the taxation class, which the post office can't do.
Is there a DVLA local office near you?Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
The nearest office is about 1 hour away.
Should the V5C that's with the DVLA at the moment get updated to say that the car is no longer for disabled use? I assume it's getting update with me as the new owner and will then be returned to me.0 -
nope the PO will not tax a disability car at least the ones in my area dont as its a different class of vehicle tax on the form. edit cross posts as per above.0

I had this exact thing happen to me once, i had to go to my local DVLA office but they did issue the new disc there and then0

Unless the dealer has asked them to, the v5 will come back to you still classed as a disabiled vehicle rather than PLG. You need to take the section 10 with you to your local DVLA office and get the taxation class changed and purchase a tax disc. The disc you are using now is registered to the previous owner and if they have taxed another car then yours is void (you can get done for driving with it IF you get caught)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

You will not be able to insure it or re-tax it until you have changed the taxation class. If you use the car and have a crash you will not be covered. Do not use the car until this has been sorted out.0

Really the dealer should have sorted this out before you collected the car.0
