Zone Alarm - Comuter Associates Conflict

I have the free* Zone Alarm firewall on PC and laptop – and have had for some while.
I also have a free* Computer Associates Anti-Virus
*Both were supplied with the free BT security package - now no longer extant
The latest version of Zone Alarm will not download and an error message appears(on both computers) say there is a potential conflict with the CA Anti-Virus – and I must remove it before continuing.
Is this correct or just Zone Alarm’s way of getting you to buy their full package?
Any solutions?

i don't think you will need to pay for zone alarm , if there is a conflict with your anti virus software try using another one , i use avg which is free and works fine with zone alarm0

Are either of those firewalls as good as Zone Alarm has been in the past, Browntoa? And are they as user friendly and easy to install and run? Having updated to ZA7 I now have probs accessing email and dont know what to do about it (have posted in another thread in Techie forum). Thanks0

I have the same problem with CA and ZA.
The issue with ZoneAlarm 7 conflicting with the CA Anti-virus is documented a few times on the ZoneAlarm help forums. Version 7 contains the ZoneAlarm security suite, though only the firewall is enabled in the free version. Something to do with the disabled Kapersky AV conflicts with the CA AV on install.
Unfortunately, there has been no cure from ZoneAlarm as yet.
Your only option if you wish to keep using both is to uninstall version 7, and install the older 6.5 version.
Edit - Your post prompted me to visit the Zonelabs forums again to check on any updates and I found a possible solution below. I say possible as I haven't tried it, so can't confirm that it works. This is the quote from the ZA forums. Some recent changes in the new version ZA 7 x , which we ourselves slowly discovered - There is a ZA SS hidden underneath the ZA Free. Which the 'phantom' non-functioning Kaspersky av in there, will conflict with your CA av. Solution - However the ZA Pro does not have a ZA SS hidden. Download the ZA Pro -trial version and it will become the ZA Free after the trial period has passed. So uninstall the ZA Free and install the ZAPro and use it instead. Simply install the new ZA Pro 7.0.337 (15 day trial version) and let the trial period expire, ZA Pro will revert to ZA Free without
the problems caused by the ZA Free with ZA SS underneath.
Hope this helps.Dave. :wave:0
