Central Heating & TRV Questions

The reasoning is good as long as the rads are adequate.chirpychick wrote: »My husband said that the thermostat is in the living room and we always have the living room door shut so he thinks that the thermostat shuts the heating off when downstairs is warm so before the hall/upstairs gets to the right temperature.
So he thinks by having the thermostat in the hall and fitting TRV's, it will heat the entire house to the correct temperature before shutting off whilst not overheating downstairs.
Do? Actually it is fine. With the configuration you are proposing, a somewhat undersized rad in the room with the thermostat is ideal. On ordinary days, it will still reach temp - on the very coldest days, it won't quite make it, but the room thermostat will keep everything going - the TRV's will keep the rest of the house at the right temperature, just the hall will still be a bit cold but not as cold as you are used to.chirpychick wrote: »It was guess work, but thank you ever so much because we have just used the calculator (after measuring rooms and lots of maths) we have discovered our guess work was right, all rooms are perfect but the radiator in the hallway is way under in BTU.
So what do we do now??
Leave it a winter and if the rad really is too small, put in a bigger rad next summer.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
