If you cause a bump and suffer no damage to your vehicle but the other driver makes a thrid party claim against you, do you pay any Insurance excess or do you only pay this if you claim.
I keep getting differening answers.

if a claim is made i would imagine that you have to pay the excess0

No, you only pay the excess towards yor own damage.
If there is no "own damage" i.e. only third party, then your insurer will deal with the TP claim in full. It would still affect your no claim discount though.Out of Darkness Cometh Light, Out of Sandwell Cometh S***e...0 -
Insurance excesses apply to accidental damage to or theft of your own car. They do not apply to third party claims.
It's possible that insrance companies vary, but that's what my policy says.0 -

I have my no claims protected for life (up to 3 a year ) and no damaged to my car so I should be ok. I was dreading having to pay out £150 excess.xxxdxxx

Protected for life??!!
Just be careful they might just put up the premium and then knock 70% off!!
Also protected for life will only be that company so just keep your wits about you at renewal time.0
